Olive Branch, Miss. (December 3, 2012) – Zachary Kendall, a senior at Olive Branch High School, has been named a C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars Award winner.
Kendall is one of six students in the Greater Memphis area who received this week’s award for General Scholarship. C Spire Wireless will recognize more than 160 students during the 2012-2013 school year. Kendall and other weekly winners will be honored at a luncheon at the Hilton Memphis, Thursday, May 2, 2013.
Kendall is an excellent student who has a natural talent for working with computers. He holds a 4.33 weighted grade point average, scored 31 on the ACT and currently ranks ninth in a class of 258 seniors. Kendall is a member of the National Honor Society, the Beta Club and the 30+ Club.
Using his computer talent, Kendall entered the Cyber Foundations National Competition, winning the title of Mississippi State champion. In the contest, he had to complete several modules online on administration and viruses. Kendall not only finished first in the state but in the top one third nationally. As a freshman he placed fifth in Mu Alpha Theta’s Geometry written competition and has participated in the Blue Mountain College Math and Science Tournament.
The C Spire Wireless Academic All-Stars program was conceived to identify and recognize high school students for excellence in academics, school leadership and community service. Now in its 7th year, the C Spire Academic All-Stars Awards are presented weekly for 28 weeks during the academic year from nominations submitted by school administrators.
Judges include educators from Rhodes College, The University of Memphis, LeMoyne-Owen College and Christian Brothers University. Each Sunday during the year, C Spire Academic All-Stars are announced in The Commercial Appeal.
